Angelo "Angel" Batista is a major character in the Dexter franchise (Mainly the original series) and a longtime member of the Miami Metro Police Department.
He is one of the story's two tritagonists, sharing the role with Harrison Morgan.
His role in Dexter: New Blood was minor but played as a main character in Dexter: Resurrection and served as one of the two main antagonists.
Angel was a constant presence throughout the early seasons of the series, regularly appearing at major crime scenes and often having storylines that ran alongside the main plot. One of his most notable arcs involved his relationship with Maria LaGuerta, whom he began dating before eventually marrying. Their marriage later ended due to personal and professional conflicts.
Following LaGuerta's death, Angel continued his career with Miami Metro and was eventually promoted to Lieutenant of Homicide. At the same time, he successfully managed his restaurant business, balancing his responsibilities both inside and outside the department.
He retired from Miami Metro in the beginning of Dexter: Resurrection, showing a scene where Angel Batista, Vince Masuka, and Joey Quinn sits down at a bar.
He began investigating Dexter Morgan after starting to suspect that he was The Bay Harbor Butcher, ultimately leading to him laying down on Dexter's killtable.

Dexter Morgan: Angel’s most significant adversary became Dexter Morgan (Dexter: Resurrection), the series' protagonist and a serial killer known as the Bay Harbor Butcher. Initially, Angel considered Dexter a friend and ally, but upon learning Dexter’s killings, he pursued him with increasing determination. Batista’s personal sense of justice and loyalty to innocents like Maria LaGuerta and James Doakes fueled his vendetta, culminating in Angel confronting Dexter and ultimately leading to a fatal altercation with Leon Prater while trying to bring Dexter to justice.
Lila West: In Season 2, Lila West posed a threat to Angel indirectly. She filed false rape charges against him to manipulate Dexter, creating tension and professional danger for Batista.
